Praise the Lord! We are the weak ones who publish the gospel.
Psalms 68:11 says, “The Lord gives the command; / The women who bear the glad tidings are a great host.”
All the believers in Christ are the “Women”, the weak ones, who can do nothing except proclaim the glad tidings of God’s victory in Christ. The announcing of the glad tidings of Christ’s victory and the spoil gained by the Lord as the portion of God’s elect. While we announce the glad tidings, preaching the gospel, we enjoy the Triune God as the spoil gained for us by Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 12:8-10, Paul asked the Lord to remove the thorn in his body three times. And the Lord has said to him, His grace is sufficient for Paul, for His power is perfected in weakness. Therefore, Paul will rather boast in his weaknesses that the power of Christ might tabernacle over him. He is well pleased in weaknesses, in insults, in necessities, in persecutions and distresses, on behalf of Christ; for when he is weak, then he is powerful.
We know some sicknesses go away immediately. Others do not. Once brother Nee was sick, and He asked the Lord for healing. The Lord said, "The healing will not come that quick. But My grace is sufficient for you." The Lord showed brother Nee a ship that was unable to sail on a river because of rocks. He said, "Do you want Me to remove the rocks so that the ship can go through, or do you want the water level to rise so that it covers the rocks, and the ship can sail through?" Brother Nee was immediately clear within about the Lord's desire, and he said, "Lord, I do not ask for the removal of the problem but for the increase of grace."
Removing the rocks is one way, and increasing the water level is another way. Both are acceptable, and either is good. There is no sickness in this world that a Christian cannot overcome. If we have the Lord's word, our eyes should not be set on the symptoms. We must believe that God is faithful. We should only contact God's word. There is no need to look to the symptoms to justify our faith, and there is no need to worry if they contradict our faith. The rocks may still be around, but the water level has risen, not just a little but a great measure, and the ship is able to sail through. This is our way.
The Lord will not remove the rocks and the thorn, He just wants to increase His grace into us. The Lord is increasing our enjoyment of Christ. Whenever we are in the suffering or any difficult environment, He will not remove the difficulties but increase His grace in us that we may still proclaim the gospel. As believers today, we are the weak ones, those who cannot do anything except bear, preach, the glad tidings. Hallelujah!
Hymn: I believe, so I speak
So many times I was in weakness;
I realize that was my blindness.
I'm beginning to see
All that the Triune God is to me.
